Our commitment: Fed? is designed with privacy at its core. Your pet data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We don't sell or share your personal information. We don't run ads. We have no servers of our own. The app can send us anonymous diagnostics so we can fix bugs — never your pet names or feeding records, and you can switch it off in Settings.
What Data Does Fed? Store?
Fed? stores the following information locally on your device:
- Pet profiles — name, species, emoji avatar
- Meal schedules — meal labels and optional scheduled times
- Feeding logs — who fed, when, and which meal
- Medication records — medication name, dosage, frequency, and due dates
- Family member names — display names for people in your household
- Your display name — the name shown when you mark a meal as fed
- App preferences — notification settings, daily reset time
All of this data is created by you and stored on your device.
iCloud Sync
If you use the Family Sharing feature (Pro), your pet and feeding data is synced through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit). This means:
- Data is stored in your personal iCloud account, protected by your Apple ID
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
- Only people you explicitly invite via iCloud sharing can see your data
- We (SmartKittos) have zero access to your iCloud data
- If you stop using iCloud sync, your data remains on your device

What We Don't Collect
We have no access to your pet data — it lives on your device and in your iCloud, not on any server of ours. The only thing we receive is the anonymous diagnostics described below.
- No email addresses or phone numbers
- No account registration required
- No location data
- No photos (the pet photos you add stay on your device and in your iCloud)
- No contacts access
- No advertising identifiers, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking
- No sale or sharing of your data with anyone
Anonymous Diagnostics
Fed? can send a small set of anonymous diagnostics so we can find and fix bugs. It never includes your pet names, family names, or feeding records — and you can switch it off in Settings → Privacy.
Fed? has no servers of its own, which historically meant we had no way of knowing when something broke for you — we only found out if someone wrote to us. These events fix that.
What is sent:
- Reliability events — a family invitation failed to connect (with Apple's error code), a sync operation failed, whether background updates are arriving
- Setup events — onboarding was completed, a first pet was added
- Which screen an upgrade prompt was opened from, and whether a purchase followed
- Small counts describing how the app is set up on a free plan: how many pets, meals, and family members exist (numbers only)
- Performance measurements from MetricKit, Apple's own framework. iOS collects and aggregates these on your device over 24 hours before the app can read them: how long Fed? takes to launch, how long it spent unresponsive, its peak memory use, and how many times iOS had to terminate it. If the app crashes or freezes, we also receive the type of failure as a numeric code — never the contents of your data.
- Your app version, device model, OS version, and language — provided automatically by the analytics service
- An identifier generated from your app installation and device, hashed before it is sent. It lets us tell one device's events apart from another's. It is not your Apple ID, cannot be reversed, cannot be linked to you, and is not shared across apps.
What is never sent:
- Pet names, family member names, your display name, or any text you typed
- Feeding times, feeding history, medication names, or notes
- Photos
- Your email, phone number, Apple ID, or precise location
- Anything that identifies you personally
Who processes it: TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service hosted in the European Union, acting as our data processor. They do not build advertising profiles and do not sell data.
If you installed Fed? before August 2026, when this feature did not exist, diagnostics are off by default on your device. We will not start collecting from your install unless you turn the switch on yourself. New installations have it on by default and are told so during setup.
Notifications
Fed? uses local notifications (on your device) to remind you about feeding times and medications. These notifications are processed entirely on your device and are never sent to any server.
Subscriptions & Payments
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store any payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.). Apple processes all transactions according to their privacy policy.
Third-Party Services
Fed? uses two external services and no others. There is no advertising or social media SDK in the app.
- Apple's CloudKit — optional family sync, governed by Apple's privacy policy. Your pet data lives here; we cannot access it.
- TelemetryDeck — anonymous diagnostics, described above. Can be switched off in Settings.
Crash information reaches us two ways, both anonymous: Apple's own App Store crash reporting, which is available to every developer and is aggregated by Apple before we see it; and the failure-type codes described above, which stop being sent the moment you switch diagnostics off.
Children's Privacy
Fed? does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require any personal information to function — the display name you enter is stored locally and is never transmitted to us, including in anonymous diagnostics.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
